Barrie has set the stage for the construction of a hotel/convention
centre in downtown Barrie – despite some public concerns about the towers
cutting the city core off from the waterfront.
Council approved rezoning several downtown parking lots, to set up the site
for what will be a $75-million project that features a 650-seat convention
centre, a 144-room hotel and a 12-storey condo tower on the project’s west side,
with frontage on lower Bayfield Street.
